During the summer of 2019 being one of the UW Trout Lake Station artists in residence I spent my time as a nature photographer snorkeling the local lakes photo’ing the art and beauty of life below the surface.
From the months of June into September I snorkeled nine lakes in Oneida and Vilas County and an early September snorkel in Lake Superior.
I had memorable encounters in lakes named Star, Little Bass, Clear, Trout, Sparkling, White Sand, Blue, Presque isle and Solstich filling memory cards from 33 different outings in water temperatures from 60 to 78 degrees.
The experience was not just in the water but also when I would share what I had photo’d with staff and student and debates of the names of what I had captured digitally and questions of where I had seen certain aquatic plants, fish, algae, frogs and aquatic invertebrates.
The Trout Lakes Stations open house was also an unforgettable occasion where I could not only share my experience and show my photos to the public but also see the other 2019 artists work and the projects of what the scientist and students were working on and how they were going about it.
I consider myself lucky to have been involved With the UW Trout Lake Station and being one of its 2019 Artists in Residence.
